Our story

The school was founded in October 1990 of the initiative of Izabella Whiting and her team. Initially, it was named St. Joseph Polish Supplementary School and had strong ties with St. Joseph Parish in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where the classes took place for over two decades. In 2005 in honor of Janusz Korczak – a doctor, author and social activist, but first and foremost, an extraordinary teacher - the school was renamed Janusz Korczak Polish Language School. Since September 2018 we have been operating at a new location - St. Adalbert Parish in Providence.

The school is a non-profit organization. All the proceeds are put towards operating and development of the school. We rely solely on school fees and private donations.

For over 30 years it has been our goal to inspire the students to learn the mother tongue of their ancestors and to emphasize the importance of knowing their cultural heritage. We also encourage our students to participate in the parish events where they can demonstrate their language competence during religious and secular celebrations.
